GUM

GUM was made because there was a need to access mail messages from a shared network resource with a web browser.

It manages messages received from other people, as well as drafts, templates and messages sent / created by the user.

Useful features of the GUM include:

MessageFilters

Used for automatically organizing messages received

Nested MessageContainers

Used for structuring and organizing messages

Interfaces to the AddressBook and CalendarFolder, which enable easy conversion of messages into events and todos, and quick lookups of available addressees.

An out of office switch, when enabled notifies whoever that sends a message that the person they're trying to reach is out of the office. The message sent when out of office is switched on is configurable.

Message imports, which enables the use of old messages in the GUM, and messages may be automatically dropped to the appropriate folders depending on the addresses.

Message filters

This screen is used to prioritize mail filters. Say for example that two message filters are set; one to put any message where any of the recipients are located at somehost.com to the somehost folder, and one to put any message where any of the recipients are located at anotherhost.com. If a message is received which includes both those address fields, the application will have to choose which folder to put the message into, this is where the priority of message filters comes in. The higher the message filter, the more likely any message matching that message filter will be put in the appropriate folder.

Using the GUM

When entering the GUM main view, you will be presented with a view of all the Incoming, Outgoing, Draft and Template type mailboxes.

Over each type listing, there is a title describing what kind of message containers are listed below. Clicking the title will give a listing of all message listed in that type of folder.

To access any of the mailboxes, simply click on them and you will be presented with a view of all the messages in that container, and containers within that container. Messages are listed in such a way that the most recent messages come first.
